TypingMaster India is an independent typing practice platform and is not affiliated with IBPS, SBI or any bank. Confirm all requirements in the current official notification.
Banking recruitment often assesses computer proficiency rather than pure typing speed, and where a typing element exists it is usually a proficiency check rather than a competitive score. That does not make it unimportant — failing it can delay or block joining.
What to prepare for
Typical elements include:
- Basic typing at a moderate speed in English or Hindi
- Working knowledge of a computer and standard office tasks
- In some cases, acceptance of a recognised computer proficiency certificate in lieu of the test
Check which applies to your specific recruitment.
Numeric fluency is the differentiator
Banking work is data-heavy: account numbers, IFSC codes, amounts, dates. Prose speed alone will not prepare you. Add:
- Numeric keypad drills — long digit sequences with decimal points
- Mixed alphanumeric drills — codes such as reference numbers
- Currency and date formatting practice
Ten minutes twice a week is enough to make a real difference.
Accuracy over speed, unambiguously
In a banking context a transposed digit is a material error, and assessments reflect that mindset. Target 98% accuracy on numeric material even if it means typing slowly at first.
A simple four-week plan
| Week | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Technique check, English prose at 96% accuracy |
| 2 | Numeric keypad and alphanumeric drills |
| 3 | Mixed passages — prose with embedded numbers and codes |
| 4 | Full-duration simulations at required speed +10 |
If you hold a proficiency certificate
Where a recognised computer proficiency certificate is accepted in place of the test, carry the original documentation to verification. Do not rely on it entirely — being able to type competently is useful on the job regardless.
Practical on-the-job value
Unlike a purely qualifying exam hurdle, banking clerical work involves continuous data entry. Preparation here pays off directly in your first year of work, so treat accuracy habits as permanent rather than exam-only.
